Biography for Andrew Riddle
I was born in Bristol, England, and after spending my early childhood in New Zealand I moved (with my family) to Canada where I now hold citizenship.
I have always been interested in artistic expression (especially in a comical form) and early on developed an ability to lampoon classmates and (later) workmates with my self-styled caricatures.
In 1992 I began to dabble in wood carving after receiving a set of carving chisels as a gift. After a couple of years of valuable feedback from customers I began to separate my work into two distinct styles, realistic and comical.
Since that time I have continued to refine my style and work methods and I am always striving to learn more.
Most of my work is fashioned out of B.C. pine , spruce, driftwood, or fibreboard using chisels and electric sanders. All of the colour is applied with acrylic paint, and up to 5 coats of urethane varnish or lacquer.
My work is displayed in homes and offices around the world and continues to provide me with a sense of artistic accomplishment and a desire to continue to explore the creative process.
